Juvenile greeting cards illustrated by Judy Sanqunetti

Have a sweet Birthday! card by Judy Sanqunetti

Happy Birthday card by Judy Sanqunetti

Birthday Boy card by Judy Sanqunetti

Last night during my son's baseball game I began to get a cold (YES in May!) I could not believe it, could be allergies as well, who knows.  So this morning I was not feeling very motived to be creative, and I thought about taking a snooze.

But I pushed on and decided to get into the groove after all.  Yesterday I began to create some greeting cards for the kids market and I finished these up today.  It ended up being a pretty creative and fun afternoon after all, even though I felt a bit crummy.

I submitted these to a company I found in the Artist's & Graphic Designer's Market book.  I found last years at the library, so I could check it out to see if I thought there would be enough good leads for me.  So far, so good so I will probably purchase the 2014 edition along with Children's Writer's & Illustrator's Market.

Feel free to contact me to let me know what you think, just to say hello or if you need any custom work!

Until next time!

Maria Bogade: Some party paper products for a cute school start ...

Some party paper products for a cute school start - giveaway

From time to time I get to work on some lovely commissions not related
to books at all. And sometimes they happen to become beautiful products.
So it happened almost two years ago, when I was approached by a German
company producing paper goods mainly aimed at all things school related,
or to be more precise school start related.

The other day I received a big parcel with my samples! It felt like
Christmas in spring :-)! Well, it actually alway does, when I receive
samples, as somehow this feeling never seems to fade away, when
receiving those wonderful parcels from clients!

I am also extremely happy with the quality of the products, which you can purchase right here ;-)!

It is a series of party paper goods to celebrate the start of school.

In Germany we have a tradition that is not necessarily common all around
the globe (let me know, if I am wrong about this :-)!). The first day
of school children in Germany go to school with their families and,
which is the important part to all the kids here :-), a huge
"Schultüte", which is a large cornet of cardboard filled with lots of
sweets and tiny presents. I still remember my first day of school and
how heavy my "Schultüte" was. I almost couldn't carry it, tiny as I was
:-)! And I was so eager to open it and see what was inside. But you have
to wait until the end of school until you can peek inside or simply rip
the cone open and spill all the goodies on the floor :-).

The "Leni & Paul"
party paper series has a girl and boy set and is for the party to go
with a school start. There is a card, napkins, a garland, paper bag and
some more fun things like an activity book, book sign etc. As I haven't
done a giveaway in ages and feel it is about time to hold one again, I
am giving away one girl set and one boy set!

All you have to do to have a chance of being one of the two randomly
chosen winners is leave a comment on my blog! The giveaway ends 1st
June 2014!

Good luck!

Ingvard the Terrible : Illustrator, Viking, Dude: iPad app design and illustration

Ingvard the Terrible : Illustrator, Viking, Dude: iPad app design and illustration:

iPad app design and illustration

I love illustration. You may have guessed that already. I also love design. Also, probably somewhat self-evident.
I have discovered over recent years, however, that I also like designing
for interactive format, or GUI (Graphical User Interface), such as web
sites and apps, etc.
On top of that, I've also discovered that I like designing and/or
illustrating stuff featuring wildlife or any other zoo-ish or
safari-esque subject matter. Who knew.
This project, then, was a pleasurable combination of all of the above.
It's just a concept, mind you, so don't go looking for it in the App
Store just yet.

My Little Corner Of The World!: This Little Dot Went For A Walk!

I've started doing some warm up doodles, sketches and little paintings to get my ideas going each day. I'm noticing this is making me come up with concepts quicker and quicker. It's a great method to throw ideas around and create an image to go with it. This kind of thinking goes back to my university days when we made verbal and visual narratives in a class I took (that also led to me to being an illustrator). It really is a great way to creatively stretch especially after having the flu and winter storms all hit you at once. Glad I got this this cute dot done. We are in for yet more messy weather this afternoon.

Have a great creative weekend all. - Holly

Image Spotlight - "Rainbow Trout"

As a freelance illustrator I specialize in traditional and digital cut paper collage for the children's market. The Rainbow Trout is a personal piece I recently created in an effort to play with a new technique that involves working with overlays and watercolor washes.  For this piece I created washes of watercolor on illustration board and scanned them in to Photoshop. Then I placed a hand-drawn sketch in Photoshop and built up each element of the drawing in layers with textured clipping masks. To create the transparency in the rainbow water I used overlays and varying opacities for each color.
This process allows me to easily adjust colors, compositions, and textures within my illustrations towards the end of a piece's development.  I have used this process while working for clients such as National Geographic Kids Magazine, Kids Can Press (Schools Days Around the World, Spring 2015), and World Book Encyclopedia.

New: mailing list

Hello everyone.
I set up a mailing list. So everyone who wants to get the scoop of my illustrations, but doesn’t have the time to follow the blog, Facebook or Twitter, may sign up HERE.
I won’t spam with every single news I have. Don’t worry. I’ll just send the newsletter from time to time when something new happened like book releases, promotion or some season greeting in between.
To all those illustrators (and other interested): I chose the service Cleverreach. It’s available in English and German. It enables you to create your professional emails online, safely dispatch them, measure their success and manage your email contacts
Things I really like are:

• Autoresponder
• Templates which you can easily design the way you want them to have
• Social media integration (I’m having a newsletter-tab on my facebook page *yay*)
• Analyzing & Tracking
… and so many more.
Have a look over there :)

What's Going On At The Time Tonight? I'll tell you!

I received a special delivery today. Finally, the book I illustrated is available to buy and my copies were sent in the mail. It's an amazing feeling to hold the final product after working on something like this for 6 months! So without further delay, I present snippets of the book, What's Going On At The Time Tonight? written by Gerald Mercer

"What’s Going On at the Time Tonight? is a sweet and rollicking rhyming book about a Newfoundland “time”—a party—with a twist: it’s underwater! The sea lice are boogying, the jiggly jellyfish are riding the wave, and everyone is having a good time tonight." -Nimbus Publishing
